St. Gregory, a Catholic, co-educational high school, defines the task it has chosen to accomplish: "to provide students of diverse academic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds a secure environment in which they can experience quality education that equips them with the skills needed to become contributing members of society, and to accomplish this in an atmosphere that encourages respect and fosters human values." St.
Gregory High School opened in 1937 as the first co-ed Catholic high school in the Archdiocese.
It has always been one of Chicago's smaller Catholic high schools.
It is a school where 鈥渇aith based education鈥, 鈥渕ission鈥, 鈥渇amily鈥 , 鈥渋nclusive鈥, 鈥渞espect鈥 and 鈥 individual attention鈥 have always been key values that best describe the attitude and environment a student, parent or parishioner will find within its halls and classrooms.
In the early years SGHS was primarily a neighborhood school and the homes surrounding the school were teeming with students at both the elementary and high school levels.
As the times and neighborhood have changed so has the high school.
Today SGHS is home to a culturally, economically, academically and religiously diverse student body.
An inspired faculty team continually seeks opportunities to utilize those differences to abolish intolerance and build bridges to respect and understanding.
